Hend Al Otaiba, the ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to France, presented his credentials to French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday.
The ceremony took place at the Elysee Palace in Paris, the French capital.
Fluent in French and an expert in strategic communications, Ms. Al Otaiba has spent her career promoting the UAE to the world through arts and culture as well as public relations and diplomacy.
In her most recent function, she created and headed the first strategic communication service at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
The department is responsible for promoting the country’s foreign policy and interests through the international media and diplomatic missions of the United Arab Emirates.
Prior to that, Ms. Al Otaiba worked as Director of Communications at Abu Dhabi Media and also alongside Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, as an adviser on international diplomacy issues until 2019 .
As envoy of the United Arab Emirates to France, Ms. Al Otaiba joins a select group of senior Emirati women diplomats, including Lana Nusseibeh, the United Arab Emirates’ first female permanent representative to the UN, and Reem Al Hashimy , Director General of the Expo and Minister of State for International Affairs Cooperation.
More than half of Foreign Ministry staff and 40% of UAE diplomats are women, an achievement recognized by the UN in its 2021 Women in Diplomacy Index, which praised the UAE for progress they have made in promoting the participation of women in diplomacy. .
